While RCEP provides some benefits as aforementioned, this agreement would generate serious negative impacts on Cambodia, especially local communities who are vulnerable to land grab. According to leaked chapter of RCEP, it will allow foreign investors to have equal rights for purchasing farmland just like local  investors while in many RCEP member countries foreigners are forbidden in doing so. If RCEP is successfully enforced, it will result in “militarization” in which many farmers will be forced out of their land by foreign companies. Since the Khmer Rouge abolished land ownership system, many farmer communities have been living on the lands without titles. Once RCEP is enforced, foreign investors will look for opportunities to purchase those undocumented lands from the government and farmers will be evicted.
